 Pathway: This tewhatewha was dug up at Pukehinahina, Gate Pa, Tauranga, in 1875. Gate Pa was the site of a major battle between Ngai Te Rangi and British forces in April 1864. The tewhatewha was purchased by the Auckland Museum in 1890. 
  
 Catalogue description: This whale bone tewhatewha has large cracks and chipped areas along the edges of its blade. The original feather decoration is also missing from the blade.
